With rounds of 72, 80 and 76 (228) Cupples beat 4 time winner Col Kenning (Kiama) and Geoff Shute (Dunheved) who both scored 232.

The 54 hole prestigious State Championships in its 25th season was dogged by heavy rains in the lead up to the Tournament but miraculously was played in fine weather over three days at Richmond, Glenmore Heritage Valley and Stonecutters Ridge. The 3 courses were so wet that Tournament Director Les Knox decided to play all days as ‘30cm preferred lies through the green’, a decision welcomed by all players. Fifty four clubs were represented in the draw and 131 players competed for a variety of trophies.

Nett winner over 54 holes was Stephen Jones (Dunheved) and runner up was Nick Korotkich (Shortland). This tournament continues to attract the best amateur golfers (over 55 years) from across the State and is supported by Golf NSW.
